Dog Waste Bag MOQ and Sampling: What to Expect Before Production
What drives the minimum order for dog waste bags, how stock and custom programmes differ, and what to confirm in writing before a sample is made.

Minimum order quantity and sampling are the two numbers that decide whether a private-label dog waste bag project starts. Both are driven by the production process rather than by a single rule, which is why two suppliers can quote very different MOQs for what looks like the same bag.
What drives the minimum order
Four costs set the floor. Film extrusion has a minimum run per gauge and material, so a thin or unusual film usually raises the minimum. Printing needs plates for each colour, and those plates are a one-time cost that has to be spread across the order. Packaging has its own minimum for boxes, cards or labels. Finally, the packing line needs enough volume to run a clean batch.
That is why a printed bag in a custom box almost always has a higher MOQ than a plain bag in a stock poly bag. If the print is the main cost, reducing the number of colours is often more effective than reducing the bag size.
Stock items versus custom programmes
Stock items with neutral packaging can start from small quantities - our cleaning range, for example, starts at 1,000 pieces per SKU. Custom bags are quoted per specification, because the film, print and packaging are produced for that project. Ask for the MOQ broken down by component: film, print, packaging. That shows which part of the order is driving the number.
The sampling process
A typical sequence runs: confirm the written specification, produce a pre-production sample, proof the artwork, make plates, then run production. Samples usually take around 7 to 10 days depending on the format and printing, and production runs about 20 to 25 days after artwork approval. Transit time is additional and depends on the Incoterm.
Confirm three things about samples in writing: the sample charge, whether the pre-production sample is made on the final film and packaging, and whether the sample cost is credited against the bulk order. A sample that is not made on the production film can hide a difference in hand feel or seal strength.
What to send for an accurate MOQ
Send the bag format, size, film thickness, material, print colours, packaging style, estimated quantity and destination market. With those details a supplier can quote MOQ, unit price and lead time together. If one detail is missing, the MOQ will usually be quoted conservatively.
Common mistakes
Comparing MOQs without comparing the packaging, assuming a sample is the same as a production run, and forgetting that plate costs are separate from the unit price. Each of these makes a quotation look cheaper than the order will actually be.
