How Many Poop Bags in a Roll? Standard Counts and What They Mean
Most retail rolls hold 15 bags, but 10, 16 and 20 are common too. How to check the count, what it changes in cost and dispenser fit, and what to specify.

How many poop bags are in a roll? The short answer is that most retail rolls hold 15 bags, but 10, 16 and 20 are also common. The count affects the price per walk, the size of the finished roll and the retail pack you can build around it. This guide explains the standard counts and how to check what you are buying.
The standard roll counts
Roll counts are usually set in whole numbers that divide neatly into a retail pack. The most common are 10, 15, 16 and 20 bags per roll. A 15-bag roll is the volume standard; 20-bag rolls suit bulk packs and heavy users; 10-bag rolls suit compact dispensers and trial packs. Some programmes also use 21-bag rolls for a larger retail carton.
How to check the count on a pack
Retail packs usually state the total bag count and the roll count. Divide one by the other to get the bags per roll: a pack of 120 bags in 8 rolls means 15 bags per roll. If the pack only states the roll count, ask the supplier to confirm the bags per roll in writing, because the same roll diameter can hold different counts depending on film thickness.
Why the count matters
Three things change with the count. First, cost per walk: a 20-bag roll usually costs less per bag than a 10-bag roll, because the film and packing are spread over more units. Second, dispenser fit: more bags per roll means a larger finished roll diameter, which may not fit a compact dispenser. Third, pack weight and carton planning: a 20-bag roll pack is heavier, so the carton count per pallet changes.
What to specify for a private-label roll
Write down the bag size, the film thickness, the bags per roll and the roll count per retail pack. A common specification is a 23 x 33 cm bag in 15 micron film, 15 bags per roll, 8 rolls per pack. Confirm the finished roll diameter against the dispenser before production, especially if the count is above 20.
Common mistakes
Assuming all rolls of the same diameter hold the same number of bags, comparing pack prices without checking the bag count, and ordering a 20-bag roll for a compact dispenser without a fit check. Each of these changes the real cost per bag or the customer experience.
