Carton and Pallet Configuration for Dog Waste Bag Orders

What determines the carton count, which carton specifications to confirm, and how pallet and container loading affect freight cost.

Freight is charged on volume or weight, whichever is greater. That makes the carton and pallet configuration a cost decision, not an afterthought. A carton that is too light wastes container space; one that is too heavy breaks handling and retail delivery rules.

What determines the carton count

The number of packs per carton follows the roll count per pack, the physical pack size and the weight of the bags. A 21-roll carton is heavier and bulkier than a 10-roll carton, so the same container carries fewer units. Film thickness also matters: a 20 micron bag weighs more than a 15 micron bag at the same count.

Carton specifications to confirm

Confirm the inner dimensions, the gross weight, the case pack, the barcode and label placement, and the carton strength. For retail or marketplace channels, the carton may also need to meet a maximum weight or a specific label format. Put these requirements in the order specification so the packing line can plan for them.

Pallet and container loading

Pallet footprint, stack height and container type decide how many cartons fit. A 20-foot container carries fewer pallets than a 40-foot, and weight limits can be reached before the container is full with dense products. Ask for a loading plan that shows cartons per pallet, pallets per container and the estimated gross weight.

Why it matters for landed cost

Two quotations with the same unit price can have very different landed costs once the carton configuration is compared. A denser carton reduces the number of handling units, but it can also push the shipment into a higher weight bracket. The right configuration depends on the destination, the channel and the freight mode.

What to send your supplier

Send the destination, the sales channel, any carton weight or size limits, the pallet type and the expected order volume. With those details the supplier can propose a carton plan and a loading plan before the order is confirmed.
